Ohio Business Community United in Opposition to House Bill 205

In what was clearly a fast-tracked process, the House introduced, held three hearings and passed House Bill 205 all within two weeks. This is a reintroduced version of legislation from last General Assembly that mandates hiring quotas for an oil refinery's workforce, stipulating that 80 percent of contractors must be hired from an apprenticeship program. We joined the business community in opposing it during the abbreviated committee process. Pat Tiberi also authored an op-ed speaking more on the subject, which ran in the Toledo Blade last week. Work force.  It is at the top of mind for all businesses. Yet, when it comes to finding highly trained, skilled workers for Ohio’s oil refineries, state legislators are considering a law that would prevent our refineries from hiring from a broad, qualified pool of candidates.
To the editor: Union mandate legislation eliminates Ohio jobs

The legislation now heads to the Senate, where we will remain engaged in our opposition and will educate the Senators on the dangerous precedent the bill establishes.
