Michael Connelly has served as president and CEO, Catholic Health Partners, since 1995. During that time CHP’s assets have grown from $1 billion to approximately $6 billion through an innovative Co-Sponsorship/Federalism Model merging five religious sponsors and several community hospitals. CHP’s community benefit commitments grew during this tenure from 5% of revenue to 10% of revenue annually while preserving a –AA bond rating. CHP is the leader in quality/safety and market share in its communities.
Prior to joining CHP, Mr. Connelly was regional executive/CEO, Daughters of Charity National Health System-West, Los Altos Hills, California. He served as president and CEO of St. Joseph Hospital in Chicago, a 495-bed teaching hospital. He also practiced law with the firm of Gardner, Carton and Douglas.
Mr. Connelly earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration, cum laude, and a master’s degree in health services administration from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. He earned his J.D. degree from DePaul University College of Law.
Mr. Connelly has served as the chair of the board for Premier, Inc., the national Catholic Health Association, as Vice Chair of Catholic Healthcare West and on the Boards of St. Joseph Health System in California and Resurrection Health Care in Chicago. He is currently the Chair of Catholic Medical Mission Board in New York City, on the Urban League Board of Greater Cincinnati and is the Chair of the Greater Cincinnati United Way Campaign for 2013. Mr. Connelly has earned numerous professional and academic awards and served on parish and community organizations.
