Jim Henning is president of Duke Energy’s utility operations in Ohio and Kentucky, serving approximately 1 million gas and electric customers in southwest Ohio and approximately 230,000 customers in six northern Kentucky counties. He is responsible for Duke Energy's regulatory, governmental relations, economic development and community affairs work in Ohio and Kentucky.
Previously, Jim served as vice president of government and regulatory affairs for Duke Energy Ohio and Duke Energy Kentucky. In this role, he was responsible for the government and regulatory policies and strategies to strengthen the Duke Energy Ohio and Duke Energy Kentucky mission of providing safe, reliable and clean energy for customers located in both states. Jim also managed key relationships within the governors’ offices and state Legislatures, as well as the tactical interactions with the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio and its staff and the Kentucky Public Service Commission and its staff.
Before serving in regulatory affairs, Jim led the commercial activities of Duke Energy’s regulated natural gas business in Ohio and Kentucky for more than nine years. His responsibilities included the planning, procurement and recovery of more than $400 million in annual investment in natural gas. He directed the physical operations and control of Duke Energy’s natural gas distribution system around the clock. He also led the teams responsible for managing the relationships with large-business natural gas customers, as well as the management and administration of the company’s natural gas customer choice program.
Born and raised in Ohio, Jim earned a Bachelor of Science degree in financial services from Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio, and an MBA in finance marketing from the University of South Florida in Tampa, Fla. He also interned at Tampa Electric Co. while attending the University of South Florida.
Jim is active in a number of community and professional activities. He is the treasurer and member of the board of trustees of the Boone County Kentucky Public Library. He serves on the boards of directors of the Ohio Chamber of Commerce and the Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber. He is a board member of the Dan Beard Council, Boy Scouts of America. He also serves on the board of directors of People Working Cooperatively. He is a member of the Cincinnati Business Committee, Vision 2015 CEO Roundtable and the Ohio Business Roundtable.
In his spare time, Jim enjoys golf, traveling and bicycling, and is a high school wrestling official. He and his wife, Christine, have two children.
